How to Reduce Loud Sounds in iOS 15 when wearing headphones or earbuds

With iOS 15, there’s a Reduce Loud Sounds feature to help protect your hearing when wearing headphones or earbuds.

  • Open Settings.
  • Tap Sounds and Haptics.
  • Tap Headphone Safety.
  • Click the button next to Reduce Loud Sounds.
  • Select the maximum volume level using the slider.
  • To disable Reduce Loud Sounds, adjust the same lever.

With Reduce Loud Sounds enabled, you choose how loud the audio can go through the headphones before the system wakes up. The range starts from 75 decibels (“as loud as a vacuum cleaner”)  to 100 decibels (“as loud as an ambulance siren”). I have mine set on 80 decibels (“as loud as a noisy restaurant”).
