Analyst: look for five iPhone models next year

One will be a new version of the iPhone SE

Rumors about the 2021 iPhone revamp are old news. Let’s look ahead a year. In a note to clients — as noted by 9to5Mac — Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple will have four models in next year’s iPhone line-up — actually, five counting a new iPhone SE.

He says the tech giant will serve up two high-end iPhones (6.1″ and 6.7″) and two “low- end iPhones (6.1″ and 6.7″) in the second half of 2022.

Kuo writes: We believe the growth drivers for the new 2H22 iPhones will come from 1) the potential for under-display fingerprint support (using Apple’s own technology), 2) the lowest price ever for a large (6.7″) iPhone (we expect it to be under USD 900), and 3) a wide camera upgrade to 48MP for high-end models.

He’s also predicting a revamp of the iPhone SE in the first half of 2022. He expects it to offer 5G and, of course, an upgraded processor despite being the least expensive iPhone ever.

Kuo anticipates hot iPhone sales next year — and for 2021, as well. He says Apple smartphone iPhone shipments will reach 230–240 million and 250–260 million units in 2021 and 2022, respectively. That compared to about 195 million in 2020).
