Notable apps and updates: June 1

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS/iPadOS

Pedrocorp has launched Hellrule, a 2D auto-runner action platformer videogame with a horror setting.

The game draws some inspiration from the old Castlevanias, Ghosts and Goblins, and other games in its genre, while adding some modern features, such as 3D-like graphics with lighting effects. Hellrule contains a set of levels, each of which has a differentiated personality and proposes a different challenge.

Hellrule requires iOS/iPadOS 10 or later. It’s free and is available at the Apple App Store.

SR2 Solutions has announced SR2 SCIF, an encrypted messaging app that uses a mix of Elliptic Curve Cryptography, and AES-256 Bit Cryptography.

By using a mix of state-of-the-art end to end encryption and practical UI/UX design methods, SR2 SCIF protects against hackers online and against real world snoops attempting to shoulder surf users’ devices or outright break into them, according to the folks at SR2 Solutions.

SR2 SCIF requires iOS/iPadOS 14.1 or later. It’s free and is available at the Apple App Store.

macOS

Wide Angle Software has released new versions of TouchCopy and iBackup Extractor, boasting native M1 support, new interfaces, and more.

TouchCopy allows users to transfer iPhone, iPod and iPad music and playlists to a computer or directly to the Mac Music app (or to iTunes). iBackup Extractor can access all Finder/iTunes backups that are stored on your Mac and can recover files from these backups safely.

TouchCopy requires macOS 10.12 and higher. It costs $40; a demo is available for download. iBackup Extractor requires macOS 10.12 and higher. It costs $20; a demo is available for download.
