Here’s what I want in a Magic Keyboard 2 for iPad

Magic Keyboard for iPad

I’m still not ready to totally replace my MacBook Pro with an iPad Pro for working on the road. But that day may be getting closer. The Apple tablets expected to debut at next week’s “Spring Loaded” Apple Event could nudge me closer in that direction — especially if Apple also unveils a new Magic Keyboard 2 for iPad with some feature updates.

Apple’s Magic Keyboard for iPad is a good device for folks using their tablet as a laptop alternative/replacement. However, it’s missing some features I’d love to see.

Feature request one

I’m not sure how the folks at Apple would pull off my first wish, but they’re the design geniuses not me: I want a Magic Keyboard 2 that could be folded to allow my iPad Pro to serve as a tablet and be used horizontally or vertically. Currently, you have to remove the Magic Keyboard for such functionality.

This leaves the tablet vulnerable to drops and spills. Of course, you could add a case such as Apple’s Smart Cover, but that adds extra expense to the purchase. It also means one more iPad accessory to lug around.

Feature request two

The Magic Keyboard 2 for iPad needs to add a row of function keys.

Feature request three

Finally, I want a place to stow my Apple Pencil when I’m on-the-go. I love the Smart Connector that magnetically holds the Pencil to the iPad Pro — and charges it, as well. However, the magnets aren’t powerful enough to keep the pricey accessory from being knocked off when the iPad is jostled.

An extra feature request

This isn’t a Magic Keyboard 2 specific feature request, but I’d love to see the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard 2 for iPad come in a variety of colors.

Pacific Blue, anyone?
