Notable apps and updates, Feb. 1

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

macOS

Rogue Amoeba has updated SoundSource, its audio control utility, to version 53.

The upgrade sports more two dozen new features, enhancements, and bug fixes.

It’s now faster than ever to change the Mac’s default devices, thanks to new in-app keyboard shortcuts. Hit Cmd-0 to select the default output device, arrow to the desired device, hit Return, and it’s set. Cmd-Hyphen (-) makes it easy to change the Mac’s default input device, while Cmd-1 through Cmd-9 allows instant adjustment of application-specific output devices.

With the new “Bypass Effects” option, you can temporararily disable effects processing for A/B testing. As well, Audio Units are now hosted in a separate process, which prevents misbehaving plugins from crashing SoundSource. The new “Headphone EQ” effect, built using the “AutoEq” project, provides automatic calibrated equalization for many headphone models.

SoundSource runs on MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and higher, with a free, fully-functional trial available for download. It has full support for MacOS Big Sur, as well as the newest Macs powered by Apple Silicon. A license to unlock the full version costs US$39.

iOS/iPadOS

CubiCasa 2.0, the latest version of the mobile indoor capture technology is now available to all CubiCasa users as a free update.

The release features an amazing set of improvements including all-new total square footage calculation, LiDAR support, on-site room labeling with speech recognition and numerous smaller new features and improvements.

Since the introduction of CubiCasa Floor Plans in 2019, total square footage calculation has been one of the most requested features. Today, with the help of LiDAR technology, all floor plans made with iPhone 12 Pro models, 2020 iPad Pro and on select Android devices will receive floor plans with total square footage calculation added into the floor plan images.
