Reasons why the Apple Watch is the world’s most popular smartwatch

By Rooney Reeves

In terms of the smartwatch market, Apple has maintained its leading position with the Apple Watch. The maker of the iPhone accounted for more than 50% of the smartwatch industry in the world during the fourth quarter of 2018.

Prior to Apple’s model, smartwatches had been around for some time. However, it only took a few years for the smartwatch by Apple to turn into earth’s most renowned wearable timepiece.

Together with the staggering demand and popularity of iOS app developers, Apple shipped nearly 31 million units last year, while the whole Swiss watch market shipped a bit over 21 million. As with the iPhone which essentially reinvented the smartphone, the Apple Watch completely differs from what we had been wearing for generations.

In the field of mobile app development, little has been reported on what Apple could be planning for its upcoming watch models. However, there are some features that smartwatch users like to see with the Apple Watch this year and beyond. Here are some things people want to see:

° Longer battery life: for it to be an effective sleep tracker (which the Apple Watch Series 6 is), the smartwatch should be worn overnight regularly rather than charging it while you sleep. Users would love it to have longer battery life for the sleep tracker feature to be more effective and to function more accurately.

° Third-party watch faces: when it comes to smartwatch applications, Apple definitely offers more variety compared to Fitbit. Nevertheless, Fitbit enables developers to make clock faces that anyone will be able to download to the watch, which results in a great variety of designs that cater to particular interests.

Comparatively, the choice of watch faces for Apple’s smartwatch is updated and expanded at the discretion of Apple. Moreover, Apple makes it possible for third-party apps’ information to appear on certain watch faces via Complications. What’s truly appealing about the smartwatch by Apple has a lot to do with its connection to the whole iOS and WatchOS ecosystem, since it’s a piece that you get to wear on your wrist.

The Apple Watch’s popularity

The biggest reason why the Apple Watch is successful is the way that it changed how people perceive watches. No longer are wristwatches solely meant as a timepiece or a fashion accessory, but have become something that is used and depended upon throughout the day for various activities and tasks.

Watches aren’t a status symbol the way they used to be in the past. In a lot of ways, the smartwatch is an extension of the iPhone. Instead of just working as a way of telling time, it manages the calendar, delivers reminders, provides directions, and enables us to interface with applications that we use daily with no need to pull our phones out of our pockets.

The smartwatch has become much of a wellness and health device than anything else. As a matter of fact, last year Apple CEO Tim Cook said that if you look into the future and look back to what was the greatest contribution of Apple to mankind, it would be about health. The software and technology mix means that it’s situated in a unique place to keep track of people’s activity.

This is because a watch is not something you carry around in your pocket, but instead, you wear it on your wrist, which means that it literally has a connection to your body. And that connection opened up all sorts of opportunities to help measure people’s heart rate, activity, and even take an ECG.

The Apple Watch feels like the best personal trainer that you can buy. It says that you care about being healthy and active. Moreover, the watch could help you retain your fitness. If you are not active as you would like to be, the smartwatch is a terrific way of starting down the path.

Who is the Apple Watch for?

A lot of people don’t need a smartwatch. However, over the years, they have become very useful, to the point that they are no longer the expensive toys for early adopters. While it’s not a miniature smartphone, it can do some things quite capably, and the usefulness greatly varies depending on the features that you take advantage of.

If you want to buy a smartwatch to pair with your iPhone, then it should be an Apple Watch. There are other smartwatches that are compatible with the iPhone, but they are too limited. Android watches have lesser apps, and their integrations are not as useful compared to those between the iPhone and the Apple Watch.

Conclusion

If you’re on the lookout for something that minimizes the amount of time you spend checking your phone, provide fast access to useful information, and allows you to handle some activities that you otherwise need to pull out your phone to do, then an Apple Watch may just be right for you.
