Sometime between 2018 and 2019, Apple reportedly acquired and shut down Camerai (once known as Tipit), an augmented reality and computer vision company based out of Israel, according to Israeli newspaper Calcalist (as noted by TechCrunch).
Unnamed “people familiar with the deal” told Calcalist that the company was sold to Apple a year and a half ago for “several tens of millions of dollars and was folded into Apple’s computer vision team.” Camerai made “a cross-platform graphical engine with the first AR Studio for developers whiling to deliver revolutionary user experiences.”
At the time of its sale to Apple, the company employed 13 workers in Tel Aviv. According to Calcalist, most were integrated into Apple’s office in Herzliya, Israel.
