News round-up: ‘August Five to Buy,’ more

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up of news items you should check out. First up: RetailMeNot, a Vericast business and savings destination, announces its picks on the five to buy in August. Macs and iPads are on the list.

° AppleInsider reports that The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, a branch of the Netherlands Armed Forces, arrested a 37-year-old man from Bulgaria on suspicion of theft of 4,400 Apple Watches.

° Kensington has announced the availability of the new UltraThin Magnetic Privacy Screens for the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. The new privacy screens, which work with MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, help protect against the loss of data from visual hacking – the observation and theft of information displayed on a computer screen.

° Apple has released a new version of its 30W USB-C power adapter with the model number MY1W2AM/A. I’m not sure what’s different about it.

° The MacVoices conversation with Mark Fuccio on Apple’s quarterly financial results continues with discussions of what the results mean, Tim Cook’s appearance before Congress, and the ongoing debate over Apple’s 30% take on the App Store, and a different way to look at it. (Part 2 of 2)

° MacRumors notes that new images shared on Weibo appear to show a circular array of magnets housed inside an “iPhone 12” chassis.

° Bank of America Securities analyst Wamsi Mohan has downgraded Apple’s stock to a “neutral,” citing a new balance to risk and reward as the stock has hit new highs following a blockbuster earnings report.

° Virginia has become the first U.S. state to offer a COVID-19 contact tracing application using the Apple and Google API, and it’s available to download today from the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.
