Former Apple hardware engineering exec takes new job at Microsoft

Rubén Caballero, a former hardware engineering executive at Apple who left the company in April 2019, has taken on a new role at Microsoft, reports Bloomberg.

Shortly before leaving, he was in charge of working with suppliers to integrate the modems that connect iPhones wirelessly to the Internet. Caballero joined Apple in 2005, and there was no official world on why he left. However, two months before he resigned, Apple placed Johny Srouji, vice president of Hardware Technologies, in charge of its modem efforts. Caballero had been overseeing those efforts and reporting to Dan Riccio, the executive responsible for iPad, iPhone and Mac engineering.

After leaving Apple he took a job as technical advisor at a startup dubbed Humane. Humane’s website says it’s working on products that focus on “the next shift between humans and computing.”

Microsoft appointed Ruben Caballero to a role as a corporate vice president, notes Bloomberg. He’s reportedly working on hardware such as the HoloLens mixed-reality headset.
