Apple recommends App Store apps to help during the coronavirus crisis

Apple has sent out a message to Apple Store users with info on how to keep on keepin’ on during the coronavirus crise. The first recommended apps “offer ways to get in a workout anywhere.” Among them:

Nike Training Club (free, with in-app purchases): “Try free fitness videos in categories like ‘Workouts in Small Spaces.’ Use AirPlay with your Apple TV for an immersive experience.”

Wakeout! (free with in-app purchases): “On the couch? Smash a pillow. In the kitchen? Dance with skillets. Get in some exercise with fun micro-workouts that add up.”

Peloton (free, with in-ap purchas): “You don’t need a Peloton (or any equipment, actually) to get in a great workout. Choose from tons of HIIT cardio, yoga, and stretching classes.”

The next round of recommended apps offer ways to stay in touch with family and friends:

Marco Polo: (free, with in-app purchases): “A private messaging app. Send videos and texts without likes, hearts—or ads.”

FaceTime (free from Apple): “Make video or audio calls from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac through your Apple ID or phone number. Enjoy Group FaceTime with up to 32 people at once.”

Houseparty (free, with in-app purchases): “Houseparty makes group video calls easy and fun. Share your screen and play silly games with up to 8 people.”

The next rounds of recommended apps are for learning and studying: 

Epic! (free, with in-app purchases): “Used in 90% of elementary schools, Epic! is an award-winning digital library. Get instant access to 35,000 ebooks, audio books, videos, and quizzes.”

Kahoot! (free, with in-app purchases): “Kahoot! lets users take, create, and host quizzes. Find and take Kahoots on virtually any topic.”

Khan Academy (free): “Khan Academy helps kids study. Start with early principles for little ones, select a specific grade level for older kids, even study for AP tests.”

The last round of recommended apps are for meditation: 

Balance (free, with in-app purchases): “Clear your mind and relax anywhere with minute-long meditations. Having trouble sleeping? Try new meditations to wind down and fall asleep.”

Shine (free, offers in-app purchases): “Shine partnered with Mental Health America to create a free resource to help users manage mental health. Take a look, and calm your mind.”

Ten Percent Happier Meditation (free, offers in-app purchases): “New to meditation apps? Start with Ten Percent Happier. Choose from hundreds of guided lessons, like ‘Mindful of the News’ or ‘Find your Resilience’.”
