Apple has hired Lisa Ellman, a specialist in drone and aviation law and a partner at Hogen Lovells, as a Washington lobbyist, according to Bloomberg.
The article adds that she leads the Hogen Lovells law firm’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems practice. Ellman also co-funded the Commercial Drone Alliance, which “promotes the commercial use of drones and creates value for commercial enterprise drones and their users.”
Apple has been using drones to collect info to improves its Maps app. The company was granted permission to fly drones by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in March 2015. The company’s original application to the FAA didn’t go into much detail about what Apple specifically intended to with its drones, saying just that it would do ”aerial data collection, photography, and videography.”
