Apple has filed for a patent (number 20190191094) that could add automatic video cropping of video content to future iPhones and iPads.
In the patent filing, the tech giant notes that electronic devices are often equipped with a camera for capturing video content and/or a display for displaying video content. However, amateur users often capture video content without regard to composition, framing, or camera movement, resulting in video content that can be jarring or confusing to viewers.
Apple says there’s a need to automate the processing and presentation of video content in an “aesthetically pleasing manner.” The tech giant’s patent filing describes a method of automatically cropping video content for presentation on a display.
Of course, Apple files for — and is granted — lots of patents by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Many are for inventions that never see the light of day. However, you never can tell which ones will materialize in a real product.
