According to the Economic Daily, a Chinese language site, Apple plans to release a 4.7-inch “iPhone 8” next year. Think iPhone SE, version 2. Yes, there’s already been an iPhone 8, so I doubt that this will be the name of a new smartphone.
The rumor claims the smartphone will be a basic model with no FaceID or TrueDepth camera array. Economic Daily says the iPhone 8 will have an “A13” processor, 128GB of storage, and a single-lens camera.
Chances the rumor is true, according to the Sellers Research Group (that’s me): 90%, although I’m not sure about the Economic Daily’s specs. iPhone sales are slowing (but not tanking, as some pundits would have you believe), so Apple needs a lower-priced option. And a 4.7-inch iPhone 8 would also serve the needs of those who find the current line of Apple’s smartphones too big.
