The RTL Group, a digital media group with interests in 61 television and 30 radio stations in 10 countries, has touted its “remarkable” relationship with HBO and revealed that it is in talks to supply content to Apple, reports Deadline.
“Discussions with new OTT [over-the-top] platforms such as Apple are also being held so the range of activities continues to expand,” CEO Bert Habets told the publication.
OTT refers to content providers that distribute streaming media as a standalone product directly to viewers over the Internet, bypassing telecommunications, multichannel television, and broadcast television platforms that traditionally act as a controller or distributor of such content.
Apple’s streaming service will almost certainly be announced at the March 25 “It’s Showtime” event. The company has 30 scripted series in the works.
