On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.
macOS Apps/Updates
St. Clair Software has updated App Tamer, its Mac utility that manages applications to yield more efficient CPU usage, increased battery life and quieter operation, to version 2.4.2.
App Tamer’s AutoStop capability automatically slows down or pauses applications when you switch away from them, and then restarts them when you click back to them. Version 2.4.2 features a new floating-window mode to keep performance information close at hand, provides better keyboard-based navigation, and offers several bug fixes and other improvements.
It requires macOS 10.8 or higher. A demo is available for download; registration is $14.95. This update is free for users who purchased App Tamer 2.x or bought App Tamer 1.x after July 1, 2013. For those that purchased a license before that date, the upgrade is $7.95.
Cisdem has updated AppCrypt for Mac, an app that gives users the ability to password protect their apps, to version 4.0.1
It can password protect iPhoto, iTunes, Contacts, Facebook or any other applications on your Mac. To use it, you set a password and add the apps to the lock list. No one can access the protected apps unless they have the correct password. Version 4.0.1 is a maintenance upgrade with some bug fixes.
AppCrypt require macOS 10.10 or higher and is available now at the Cisdem website. A single license of AppCrypt costs $29.99. A license for two Macs costs $44.99. A demo is available for download.
Ecleti has upgraded Counter for macOS to version 1.2. The app is designed for when you need “to count things when your fingers aren’t enough.” Version 1.2 is optimized for macOS Mojave. Counter requires macOS 10.10 or higher and costs $0.99.
