The Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) has awarded Apple the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award for its efforts toward creating accessible products and technologies for people living with disabilities. Apple Senior Director of Global Accessibility Policy and Initiatives Sarah Herrlinger accepted the award at an event held yesterday.
“At Apple, we’ve tried to instill and build a culture that sees accessibility as a human right,” Herrlinger said. “It’s not about compliance or checking some box. It’s about respect for all our customers.”
The CHC New York and Fort Lauderdale, Florida provides hearing health care for infants, children, and adults with hearing loss and auditory challenges (such as auditory processing disorder or APD). The Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award is “for those who reflect values of both clinical excellence and compassionate patient care in their work to improve life quality for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind.”
