Apple expands pilot repair program for vintage Macs

As noted by Cult of Mac, Apple is expanding its pilot repair program for vintage Macs.

Both the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air machines released in mid-2012 will remain eligible for service at Apple Stores worldwide until Aug. 31, 2020, even though they were added to Apple’s vintage and obsolete products list on Aug. 31, 2018.

Apple’s pilot program allows users of older Macs to have problems fixed by Apple and its Authorized Service Providers instead of third-party repairers. The program started with support for the 21.5- and 27-inch iMac models released in mid-2011, but it was only available to customers in the U.S. and Turkey. Now the program is expanding to support new machines and new territories.

Currently on the list are the iPhone 5 (GSM/CDMA), MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2012), MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012), iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011, U.S. and Turkey only, and the iMac (27-inch, mid 2011, U.S. and Turkey only). More products will be added in the future.
