Sunday, June 17, is Father’s Day. Ebates, which specializes in cash back shopping and subsidiary of the global Internet services company Rakuten, has announced the results of its 2017 Father’s Day survey of more than 1,000 U.S. adults.
If there’s one thing dads and their families don’t agree on, it’s Father’s Day gifts. Americans think Dad wants a new set of tools, but Dad really wants some new electronics.
According to Ebates, here’s what families think dad wants: tools (28%), electronics (21%), hobby essentials (21%), beer (20%), and outdoor equipment. However, her’s what dad really wants: electronics (38%), tools (33%), beer (29%), outdoor equipment (26%), and tickets to an event (24%).
Dads also ranked the two items they want the least: candy (10%) and a tie (7%). The survey also found that three-quarters (75%) of Americans have never forgotten about Father’s Day, and that dads care more about receiving an actual gift than moms do: 44% of dads said they want a physical gift, but only a quarter (26%) of moms agreed. About half of Americans plan to spend less than $25 on a gift for Dad, but a small percentage (8%) will shell out more than $100.
