The AWT News Update is on hiatus while my compadre, Steve, takes a road trip. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

Broadcom has formally abandoned its attempt to acquire rival chipmaker Qualcomm after U.S. President Donald Trump blocked the deal citing national security risks.

Calendar 2, a scheduling app, has returned to the Mac App Store after an earlier version of the software sparked concern over its integration of a cryptocurrency miner, with developer Qbix confirming Apple pulled the software citing excessive resource utilization. 

Two clues spotted by a Dutch website suggest that Apple Pay could be coming to the Netherlands, with a possible announcement on March 20.

Apple has enabled public transit data in Apple Maps for users in Orlando, Florida. It provides residents and visitors with more info about bus routes, times, and service updates across the metropolitan area.

Former Apple employees told The Information the tech giant rushed Siri into its debut in the iPhone 4s before the tech was fully ready. Apple acquired the company behind Siri in 2010 for $200M and Steve Jobs, who passed away after the iPhone 4s debut, initially pushed the project. 

To promote the iMac Pro, Apple today has released a series of short films created by filmmakers and CG artists using the high-end all-in-one desktop.
