Apple has bought Auckland technology company PowerbyProxi, an Auckland, New Zealand tech company, for an undisclosed sum, according to a Stuff report. Apple engineering chief Dan Riccio says the “team will be a great addition as Apple works to create a wireless future,” the article adds.
PowerbyProxi designs and develops “safe, high efficiency and high density wireless power technology,” according to a company statement. It was founded in 2007 as a spin-out of the University of Auckland’s wireless power center, building on over a decade of ground-breaking research.
“The team and I are thrilled to join Apple,” PowrbyProxi founder Fady Mishriki told Stuff. “There is tremendous alignment with our values, and we are excited to continue our growth in Auckland and contribute to the great innovation in wireless charging coming out of New Zealand.”
PowerbyProxi offers a range of products for different power requirements, from heavy duty wireless slip ring solutions to wireless charging solutions for autonomous vehicles. The Proxi-Module family is the latest addition to the product line.
These are completely modular wireless power systems designed to be integrated and adapted into existing system, but can also be used as stand-alone products for industrial and commercial use. Proxi-Modules are very high efficiency systems (over 90%), while achieving the highest power density of any wireless power system available, according to PowerbyProxi.
