Rumor: Apple wants Culver Studios and an original drama with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon

Apple wants to move its original video content division to Culver Studios, a place with a long history in the Hollywood film industry, according to the subscription-based Financial Times. Although the location has 13 sound stages suitable for both TV and feature films, Apple is primarily looking for office space, the article adds.

The Cupertino, California-based company has set a budget of roughly $1 billion to procure and produce original content over the next year, according to the Wall Street Journal, and could acquire and produce as many as 10 television showsOne of the first acquisitions the tech giant is said to be eyeing is a high-profile drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, set on a morning TV chat show. The FT says Apple is reportedly bidding against Netflix and others for rights to the show.

Culver Studios is a movie studio located at 9336 West Washington Boulevard in Culver City, California. Originally created by silent movie pioneer Thomas H. Ince, many classics from Hollywood’s Golden Age were filmed there, including Gone with the Wind, A Star is Born, Intermezzo and Rebecca. It’s currently owned by Hackman Capital Partners.
