Edifier’s $249.99 R2000DB is a good-looking bookshelf speaker with surprisingly good audio.
Encased in an MDF wooden enclosure to minimize acoustic resonance and packing 25mm silk dome “Eagle Eye” tweeters, it’s a good choice for computers, gaming consoles and mini-home theaters. Plus, the R2000DB has built in digital signal processing (DSP) and dynamic range control (DRC) to minimize distortion.
The amplifier module’s power is quoted at 36W per channel for the woofer and 24W per channel for the one-inch, silk dome tweeter. The R2000DB woofer is 5.25 inches and helps create a full range of sound.
The R2000DB serves up a surprising amount of bass for a speaker system of this size, especially considering there’s no subwoofer. Overall, the speaker’s sonic quality is smooth and crisp. Even when using Bluetooth streaming, there were no lags or sonic artifacts diluting my listening pleasure.
You connect devices to the speaker system with optical and RCA inputs. Edifier supplies a thick cable with high quality, dedicated connectors on both ends. Conveniently, you can also have more than one device plugged in at a time. Plus, you can use Bluetooth to pair devices such as the iPhone and iPad.
The R2000DB comes with a wireless remote for your convenience. It’s small, has a “cheap” feel, and is easy to lose. If you do, you can use the side panel on the speaker to adjust bass, treble and master volume.
You can pay a lot less for a speaker system, or you can pay a lot more. However, Edifier’s R2000DB is a reasonably priced hi-fi system worth your consideration.
