Samsung Display revving up its OLED lines to prepare for the ‘iPhone 8’

According to the Korean news site, etnews, Samsung Display will operate seven of its sixth generation flexible OLED lines on full scale this month to prepare for the “iPhone 8.” The next gen phone is expected to debut in September, although supplies will probably (and as usual) be constrained.

The article says its production capacity of panels for Apple smartphones will increase sevenfold from 15,000 panels per month from last year to 105,000 panels per month this year. If etnews and other reports are correction, the next generation smartphone will be the first to use OLED tech.

OLED technology is used in many high-end smartphones.  Supporters of the technology praise its high contrast/deep blacks and potential thickness and power consumption advantages.
