Charging cables are usually pretty unimpressive; I mean, how much can you say about a cable that runs from a USB port or AC adapter to a Lightning port? Well, accessory manufacturer Moshi has come out with a cable that’s so well-built it may very well be the last charging cable you’ll need to buy (unless Apple decides to switch to USB-C for iOS devices…). The $24.95 Integra USB-A to Lightning Charging Cable might not be the cheapest cable on the market, but it’s designed to last.
Let’s start with the spine of this cable, which is made of DuPont Kevlar® – the same material that’s used in bulletproof vests. Moshi used this durable material so that any section of the cable can be flexed 180-degrees over 20,000 times before breaking. Next, the exterior of the cable is covered with ballistic nylon for two reasons — prevent abrasion to the cable and keep it from tangling. The housings on either end for the connectors are made of aluminum with big stress relief pieces.
The Integra cable can support up to 12W of power (5V, 2.4A), perfect for high-speed charging of any iOS device. Finally, Moshi includes a “HandyStrap” cable manager with the Integra so it’s easy to wrap up tangle-free in your pocket or iPad bag.
Moshi makes a lot of premium accessories for Apple and other gear, and it’s encouraging to see that the company puts as much attention into designing and manufacturing something as boring as a charging cable.
One last thing: the Integra cable comes in four finishes. You can get Titanium Gray, Jet Silver, Crimson Red, and Golden Rose.
