According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, global smartphone shipments grew 6% annually to reach 353 million units in quarter one (Q1) of 2017. Samsung recaptured first position with 23% global smartphone marketshare, while Apple dipped to 14% share, adds the research group.
Strategy Analytics says Samsung shipped 80.2 million smartphones worldwide in Q1 2017, rising 2% annually from 79 million units in Q1 2016. Samsung recaptured first place this quarter, after losing top spot to Apple in the previous Q4 2016 holiday season.
Apple fell 1% annually and shipped 50.8 million smartphones for 14% marketshare worldwide in Q1 2017. Apple iPhone shipments have declined year-on-year in four of the past five quarters.
