The NAB Show is kicking off on Saturday in Las Vegas, which means that the latest gear for broadcasters, videographers, and podcasters will be showcased. We’re starting to hear announcements from vendors, and one — OWC — has announced that it will be demoing new products and prototypes on the show floor.
To start, OWC’s Thunderbolt 3 Dock (above) will be shown. The device features 13 ports, all connected to a compatible MacBook through an included Thunderbolt 3 cable.
Fast Thunderbolt 3 SSD drives will be demoed; the Mercury Viper (see image above) is a portable unit with write speeds of up to 4040 MB/sec and read speeds of 4678 MB/sec as measured by the AJA System Test. The Envoy Pro EX is another portable Thunderbolt 3 SSD unit that will be on hand at the show.
Those who have been wishing for a Thunderbolt 3 expansion chassis for a MacBook Pro will be thrilled to know that the Mercury Helios 3 expansion chassis will be arriving in Q2 2017. The box allows the daisy-chaining of up to six Thunderbolt devices, and supports a half-length, full-height, double-width PCIe card. Those needing even more power will get to see the Helios FX (see image below), which allows high powered graphics cards to be added to any Thunderbolt 3 system.
By late 2017, OWC will be shipping its six-bay Thunderbay 6 RAID box, powered by SoftRAID and using Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. And the previously-announced DEC — a thin box that attaches to the bottom of the 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar — is still in development but getting closer to adding ports and capacity to the MBP.
OWC will be at booth #SL8905 at NAB 2017, so be sure to visit the company’s live edit suite if you happen to be attending this year’s show.
