Yesterday AppleInsider reported that Apple has taken down the iCloud Activation Lock status page on its website. The tool offered a way of determining whether a used iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Apple Watch was stolen. There was no explanation from Apple for the move. However, MacRumors has apparently found one.
Evidently, the Activation Lock website was a vital part of a bypass hack used to unlock devices bricked by Activation Lock. The process is demonstrated in a video
at the MacRumors website. This could explain — but we’re not certain — a mysterious Apple ID bug that’s been plaguing iPhone owners for months.
