Apple Special Event: Apple TV and TV app

Tim Cook reported that over 8,000 apps are now available for Apple TV, and soon fans of Minecraft will be able to play the game on Apple TV.

Product Manager Ryan Troy of Twitter started off the demo of the future of video with Apple TV. The Twitter app for Apple TV makes it possible to not only watch live TV, but see comments on it as well as Periscope videos taken from different viewpoints.

Cook noted that Apple wants the Apple TV to be the Unified TV experience, the one place to watch everything. They’re coming out with the new “TV” app, “It will completely change how you watch TV”.

The TV app brings all content from all video apps into one place. To discover new shows, users swipe down to see what’s happening on TV shows and in movies. There are Watch Now, Library, Store and Search capabilities in the TV app. There’s also a new single-sign-on feature, so that all apps that are tied to a cable channel can be logged into with just one sign-on.

The content goes to the iPad and iPhone as well, and the app is available on both. Siri searches work well to get the content on any device. Siri Live Tune-In makes the Apple TV and TV app a great way to see what’s going on anywhere.

The app comes out in December for iOS and tvOS.
