Jony Ive and Marc Newson are growing the iTree

Apple Design Chief Jony Ive’s new creation is the iTree. Well, okay, that’s not really its name, but Ive and his buddy, Marc Newson, are designing the 2016 Christmas tree for the Claridge hotel in London. The tree will be unveiled in Claridge’s lobby on Friday Nov. 18.

The Claridge’s Christmas Tree has long been a seasonal landmark and symbolizes the start of the festive season in the capital, drawing visitors and Londoners alike to admire its creative design, says Paul Jackson, Claridge’s general manager. This is the seventh year that Claridge’s has invited a favorite guest to reinterpret the tree in their own distinctive style.

“Christmas has always been a truly special time of year at Claridge’s and we are delighted to welcome our friends Jony and Marc to spread their legendary creative magic this year,” says Jackson. “We truly believe their innovative spirit and ground-breaking approach will make this year’s annual tradition one to remember for our guests.”

This isn’t the first time Ive and Newson have worked together. Their past work includes a special red version of the Mac Pro for charity, a one-off desk and a one-off Leica camera for charity.
