iPhone Day: Where to watch the keynote, a few more trademark filings, and more

Finally, it’s September 7, 2016. We’re down to the last few hours for speculation about new Apple products including the iPhone 7 and Apple Watch 2, which means that by this afternoon we’ll start hearing rumors about next year’s iPhone… But let’s go over a few details for today, shall we?

Where to watch the keynote

Click here to go to Apple’s event page, and the livestream will start at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET. There’s also an Apple Event app on Apple TV where you can pull up the action on the big screen.

Even more trademarks

Yesterday’s AWT News Update brought news of a group of trademark filings by Apple. Today, we’re seeing a few more that were discovered by trademark lawyer Brian Conroy. New today are “A10 Fusion”, “iSight Duo”, “Depth”, “Writeboard”, and “Scribble”.

Most of us expect the new iPhone to be powered by an A10 “System on a chip” (SoC), but Fusion may indicate that the company has managed to squeeze some additional functionality into the custom silicon. Perhaps the M-series motion coprocessor has been “fused” into the A10?

iSight Duo, of course, points to the dual-lens camera of the iPhone 7 Plus, while Depth, Writeboard, and Scribble all sound like possible uses for the Apple Pencil. Could the iPhone 7 work with the Apple Pencil? We’ll find out soon.

Already shipping

If the iPhone 7 is going to be in stores on September 16 as rumored, that means that they’re already starting to show up at distribution centers around the world. DigiTimes reports that Apple manufacturing partner Foxconn shipped 371,000 devices to retailers and carriers in The Netherlands, US, UK and Italy.
