In addition to cutting component quotes for notebooks and smartphones, Apple plans to reduce its costs from servers, according to DigiTimes. The Cupertino, California-based company has been seeking new server suppliers with lower quotes and “expects the move to give its existing server partners pressure on reducing their prices, according to sources from the upstream supply chain,” the article adds.
Apple has recently increased orders for server system integrator ZT, a partner of Taiwan-based Inventec, and added China-based Inspur to its server supply chain. As a result, server supply from Apple’s existing partner Quanta Computer has dropped, according to DigiTimes.
Inventec is a Taiwan-based original design manufacturer that makes notebook computers, servers and mobile devices. Inspire is a multinational information technology company headquartered in Jinan, Shandong, China. The company’s most important product is server hardware, but it also acts as a software developer and an outsourcing recipient for both the U.S. and Japan.
Taiwan’s Quanta Computer is the world’s top contract PC manufacturer. It makes laptops and assembles watches for Apple.
