Notable apps and app updates for July 5, 2016

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

MakeProg Technologies has introduced Colors + Shapes 1.0. It’s a $0.99 colors and shapes matching game for kids and adults where players must match shapes with colors as they continuously move. You can increase/decrease the speed of scrolling and bouncing; the difficulty of the game gradually increases with each level. You have more than 2000 levels to play and enjoy.

Josip Pavic has launched Ditopa – A Fantastic New Brick Breaker 1.0. The brick breaker game leverages your iOS device’s touch user interface and high-end graphics engine, allowing players to control the paddle and bounce the ball of the bricks. Ditopa is free, but does tout in-app purchases.

Galaxy of Train has blasted off from Grey Wizard Innovative. It’s a $6.99 digital boardgame based on the popular tile-based sci-fi boardgame of the same name. Taking familiar elements from the boardgame, it features tour based strategy with various play options in both single and multiplayer modes.

macOS Apps/Updates

Nektony has announced Funter 2.0, a tool designed specifically to hide and view hidden files and folders on Mac. It provides the ability to switch a file or folder’s visibility in two clicks, making them hidden or unhidden.

Funter searches for files in system folders and package contents, even where Spotlight never looks for. Mac users can find, move and delete any file, including system and browser caches.

Funter requires Mac OS X Yosemite or El Capitan. It’s free and available to download at https://nektony.com/products/funter

AKVIS has released the Spain Frame Pack for AKVIS Frames and AKVIS ArtSuite. It includes 80 hand-painted frame: 40 horizontal and 40 vertical templates.

The collection is the next addition to the Countries Series. Traveling to Spain? You can use the Spain frame pack to document your adventures in a custom designed travel journal or to create unique invitation cards for a flamenco dance party. All photo frames are listed as thumbnails.

The AKVIS frame packs can only be used with AKVIS Frames Free (available free of charge) and AKVIS ArtSuite. On the Mac platform, the apps requires Mac OS X 10.6 or higher.

Bare Bones Software has released BBEdit 11.6, an update to its text and code editor. It’s the first professional text editor to introduce built-in support for Kite, an “artificial pair programmer” that assesses code as one edits. Kite provides advanced code completion, error correction, and contextual documentation for library and API [application programming interface] calls.

In addition, BBEdit 11.6 introduces more than 100 changes across multiple functional areas of the application, including new features, refinements and fixes to specific reported issues. Beyond overall look-and-feel improvements, the new version integrates more closely with Unix-based tool workflows via a new command-line tool for interpreting Unix script output, the Find Differences command offers new text comparison options, and new “.gitignore” recognition improves efficiency for customers who use Git as part of their everyday workflow.

BBEdit 11.6 also introduces a new evaluation model in which the full, complete feature set is available for the first 30 days of use. At the end of the 30-day evaluation period, the feature set changes to include BBEdit’s editing capabilities, but not its web authoring tools or other exclusive features. BBEdit’s exclusive features may be re-enabled at any time with a purchased license.

BBEdit 11.6 requires Mac OS X 10.9.5 or later. It’s a free update to all BBEdit 11 customers. For new users, BBEdit has a suggested retail price of $49.99. Special upgrade pricing is available to owners of BBEdit 10 for $29.99, and to owners of BBEdit 9 or earlier for US$39.99. New licenses and upgrade licenses, as well as a demo version, are available directly from the Bare Bones Software website.
