On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.
Mac OS X Apps/Updates
Tension Software has introduced Menu Calendar 1.0 for Mac OS X. The tool makes a small calendar available under the menu bar in any running app.
Clicking Menu Calendar’s icon under the menu bar not only shows a small standard calendar that you can use to navigate inside any month, it also makes available a small area under the calendar for date calculation. You can add (or subtract) days, months, years and the app will instantly show the resulting day.
You can also optionally select from the menu to have Menu Calendar launched any time you log in to your Mac.
The app requires Mac OS X 10.10 or higher. It costs $1.99 and is available at the Mac App Store and the Tension Software website.
Sheep Systems has published version 2.2 of its bookmarks management applications: BookMacster, Synkmark and Markster.
Version 2.2 adds three new features for power users to maintain their bookmarks, including Upgrade Insecure Bookmarks, Remove URL Cruft, and Find/Replace Text. Also, this version will be needed for users to continue syncing with Firefox 47, which Mozilla has slated to roll out on June 7.
BookMacster, Synkmark and Markster Version 2.2 require OS X 10.10 or later. BookMacster, priced at $22.95, is the do-it-all application for web browser bookmarks management in OS X. Synkmark and Markster, each priced at $16.95, are simplified builds of BookMacster which are each focused on one specific use case. They thus offer simpler configuration for non-power users. Synkmark is focused on syncing among Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome. Markster is focused on direct bookmarking.
iOS Apps/Updates
Chimani, Inc., in partnership with Subaru of America, has launched 59 mobile app travel guides – one for each of the 59 iconic national parks – in celebration of the 2016 National Park Service Centennial. The national park apps not only serve as apark navigation tool to help visitors explore some of the country’s most beautiful areas, but also eliminate wasteful paper guides that end up in waste landfills. Each of the 59 national park apps and the flagship National Parks app by Chimani, which includes an overview of all 411 national parks, are available for free.
Linear Blue has rolled out Ditch My Car 1.0.1. The free app allows you to rapidly compare the costs of running a car against the costs of alternative transport, allowing you to see how much money you’re saving. Just enter some basic information on the ‘theoretical’ car you would buy and this then becomes your monthly budget for spending on alternative transport. You can view monthly and yearly charts to see how much money you’re saving.
Full Fat has rolled out Blocky Soccer 1.1. It’s a free sports game with mechanics for running, dribbling and shooting as a soccer striker. Featuring retro style blocky graphics with lots of characters, you run, dribble and shoot as the striker.
