On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.
Mac OS X Apps/Updates
Quark has released QuarkXPress 2016, the new version of the graphic design and page layout software. Among many new features, QuarkXPress 2016 brings designers the ability to create HTML5 publications within QuarkXPress that can be previewed locally and displayed on all modern desktop, tablet, and mobile browsers.
Called HTML5 Publications, the new feature frees users to create app-like Web experiences without needing to rely on or pay for digital publishing solutions. QuarkXPress 2016 is sold as a perpetual license, which means users can use the software as long as it remains compatible with supported operating systems. With HTML5 Publications designers can create their projects – such as ePapers, eMagazines, Webapps, and flipbooks – store them locally, and distribute when and how they choose using their own Webserver and domain.
QuarkXPress 2016 costs $849 for new users. There are discounted upgrades for owners of previous versions. A demo is also available for download.
Redcort Software has rolled out Virtual TimeClock 16, an update to the timecard management app for Mac OS X.
The utility records the exact time as it occurs, removing any guessing or estimating of arrivals, departures, breaks and lunches. Version 16 helps companies eliminate unwanted overtime and reduce labor costs by ensuring that worker start, stop, and meal break times are properly observed, according to the folks at Redcort.
One time license pricing starts at $99 for the Basic Edition and $195 for Virtual TimeClock Pro. Annual software maintenance and support enrollment and discounted upgrade pricing is available upon request or online at the Redcort Software store.
iOS Apps/Updates for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Marbotic has launched Bla Bla Box 1.0. It’s a $2.99 sandbox app to write words in a colorful way and start reading. Inspired by the Montessori method and developed with schoolteachers, little kids discover the sounds of letters and can write their first words and their name. Older ones learn to write and read any word in the world. This app is designed for children from 3 to 7 years old.
