In an op-ed piece written for The Washington Post online, Apple CEO Tim Cook formally announced his opposition to “pro-discrimination religious freedom laws,” such as Senate Bill 101, which you can read in its entirety here. The so-called “religious freedom” law passed in Indiana last week, which opponents say could give business owners the right to refuse service to gay customers.
Under Tim Cook, Apple has celebrated diversity among its employees. In this week’s editorial, the CEO recounted his company’s pro-diversity, anti-discrimination stance:
“Our message, to people around the country and around the world, is this: Apple is open. Open to everyone, regardless of where they come from, what they look like, how they worship or who they love. Regardless of what the law might allow in Indiana or Arkansas, we will never tolerate discrimination.”
