Apple’s smartphone share in Japan fell 7.2 percentage points year-over-year

Apple’s share of smartphone shipments in Japan fell 7.2 percentage points YoY to 50 percent in the first halfof 2015 (that’s April to September), or 6.31 million units, according to a report by MM Research Institute (as noted by BrightWire.com), a global investment newswire.

New mid-priced smartphones from Sony, Sharp and Fujitsu ate into Apple’s share of the shipments, according to the research group. Sony had an 18.6 percent share of shipments in H1, the second-highest among brands. Sharp was in third place with 14.3 percent and Fujitsu had 9.3 percent. Samsung was fifth with 6.1 percent, the report said.

Smartphone will account for 75.6 percent of cell phone shipments in Japan this year, according to MM.
