Although Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly told Apple Store employees in Berlin that his Apple Watch could make it through a day with a charge, the developers of Reserve Strap aren’t taking any chances. They think that the battery life of the first-generation Apple Watch will be unacceptable to most buyers, so they’re now taking pre-orders for their $250 product — an external battery pack in a wristwatch band.
As you see in the video above, the idea is actually quite smart — it takes the inductive charging capabilities of the Apple Watch charger and builds it into a strap along with a battery pack that will allegedly give the Watch an extra day or so of power.
The project isn’t being Kickstarted; rather, the Reserve Strap team is hoping that enough people will pony up $250 in pre-orders to fund development. They provide a nice caveat on the pre-order page, saying “We are still refining the design and engineering of the Reserve Strap and we can’t wait to share the details with you. We don’t have a firm release date or price point yet.”
The Reserve Strap team does say that they’ll refund your pre-order deposit at any time…
