Apple first planned to “wait until November” to release the iPhone Duo in the U.S. and China only, but then pulled the plug on October 23, reports Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman (a subscription is required to read the article).
“Apple rushed the Duo to market without enough inventory to meet demand,” Gurman said. The device currently has a January 25 delivery estimate and is hard to find in stores.”
I’m not sure what Apple was thinking in introducing the foldable smartphone when it obviously didn’t have enough inventory. Even lots of folks who completed the “get ready” process and jumped online to pre-order one at 5 am Pacific (the earliest possible time you could do so) saw delivery dates pushed into November, then December, then January.
This was poor planning on Apple’s part. Either they jumped the gun in predicting availability or the tech giant didn’t expect the iPhone Duo to be a best-seller. Whatever the case, there are a lot of unhappy folks out there; it’s a situation that could easily have been avoided.
