Apple’s new Siri Remote adds Precision Finding, but won’t work with iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 models

Apple's new Siri Remote adds Precision Finding, but won’t work with iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 models.

Apple’s new Siri Remote adds Precision Finding, but the feature won’t work with iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 models, even though they support advanced Ultra Wideband tracking, according to AppleInsider.

Precision Finding uses Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology to give you exact distance and directional guidance (like an on-screen arrow and haptic feedback) when tracking items, devices, or people nearby.

According to Apple’s notes, it requires an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or later, excluding the iPhone 17e. Compatible iPhones must run the latest version of iOS, and availability varies by region.

“The restriction is particularly notable because the iPhone 15 lineup and most iPhone 16 models already feature Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip,” notes AppleInsider. “Those iPhones support expanded Precision Finding with the AirTag 2, but they can’t use the new Siri Remote’s Precision Finding feature.”

The new Siri Remote was introduced along with the new Apple TV 4K set-top box yesterday. It’s available to order on Apple’s online store for November 13 delivery and costs US$59. It’s compatible with these models: Apple TV 4K (4th generation); Apple TV 4K (3rd generation); Apple TV 4K (2nd generation); Apple TV 4K (1st generation); and Apple TV HD.
