The rumored “MacBook Ultra’ will help drive a 50% increase in OLED display shipments this year, according to Counterpoint Research.
The research group says OLED notebook display shipments are projected to rise 50% in 2026 and 24% in 2027, supported by anticipated adoption in Apple’s next-generation MacBook Pro models and demand for premium AI PCs, while MiniLED shipments are declining.
“MacBook Ultra” is the rumored name of the upcoming Mac touchscreen with an OLED screen. It should run M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, include a Dynamic Island instead of a notch, and (hopefully) have cellular connectivity options. It’s also expected to be lighter, if not thinner, than current MacBook Pros.
The current rumor is that the product will debut at an October 27 Apple event. If true, it’s likely that a base model 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip and an iMac with an M6 chip will be unveiled at the same time.
