Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has repeatedly said the rumored “MacBook Ultra” would be thinner and lighter than current models of the MacBook Pro. Now he says it won’t.
“I don’t think it’ll be significantly thinner in the end,” he posted on X.
The MacBook Ultra is the rumored name of the upcoming Mac laptop that’s expected to be the first Mac with a touchscreen. It’s also expected to be the first one with an OLED display. It’s likely to run M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, include a Dynamic Island instead of a notch, and (hopefully) have cellular connectivity options.
On October 5, Gurman said in his latest “Power On” newsletter that the laptop will have a “significantly lighter design, though he didn’t says exactly how much lighter.
“The new MacBook Pros are lighter — significantly lighter. Apple has reengineered the machine’s interior miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to make the computer much easier to carry,” Gurman wrote.
Apple is testing the laptops with macOS 27.2, which is currently in beta, Gurman has said. The software update is expected to be released towards the end of October, so the touch-screen MacBook Pro (expected to be dubbed the “MacBook Ultra”) models might be announced later this month. If not, early November seems likely.
