CIRP: used models have taken a meaningful and growing share of overall iPhone sales

CIRP says used models have taken a meaningful and growing share of overall iPhone sales.

Even before you start talking about this month’s iPhone Duo, with recent price increases, new iPhones carry a hefty price. The new iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and tops out over $2,399 with 2 TB of storage. iPhone 18 Pro Max models are $200 more.

As consumers confront escalating prices, more appear to consider the option of buying a used iPhone, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP). Once, a buyer would find these on Craigslist or (gasp) newspaper classified ads. Now, there’s a deep market for used or refurbished phones, with many sources to choose from, including Apple itself.

CIRP data shows used iPhones have taken a meaningful and growing share of overall iPhone sales, with a total share that has roughly quadrupled in about a decade. Used iPhones accounted for 12% of iPhone purchases in the twelve months ending in June 2026.
