Qualcomm has announced the renewal of its global patent license agreement with Apple, effective April 1, 2027.
“We are pleased to extend the Apple license agreement,” said John Han, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL).
Qualcomm and Apple are, basically, frenemies. The two companies had a major legal battle over patents and chips. They settled the lawsuit in 2019 and signed a six-year licensing deal. Apple has slowly worked to build its own modem chips instead of buying all of them from Qualcomm.
