1. Keyboard Shortcuts
Use these quick key combinations to capture exactly what you need:
- Entire Screen: Press ⌘Command + Shift + 3.
- Selected Portion: Press ⌘Command + Shift + 4, then click and drag the crosshair over the area you want to capture.
- Specific Window or Menu: Press ⌘Command + Shift + 4, then press the Space bar. Your pointer turns into a camera icon—just click the desired window to snap it.
- Copy Directly to Clipboard: Add the Control key to any shortcut (e.g., ⌘Command + Control + Shift + 3) to bypass saving a file and copy the image straight to your clipboard for immediate pasting.
2. The Screenshot App & Menu
Press ⌘Command + Shift + 5 to bring up the system’s dedicated screen capture toolbar. This menu lets you: [
