How to use filtering in iOS 26 Messages

Message filtering in iOS 26 automatically hides notifications from unknown numbers and organizes your texts into separate folders like Transactions, Promotions, and Spam.

How to Enable Message Filtering

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap Apps, then select Messages.
  3. Scroll down to the Unknown Senders section.
  4. Toggle on Filter Spam and Screen Unknown Senders.

Customizing Notifications

You can choose to still receive alerts for important messages from unknown numbers:

Inside the Messages app, tap the Filters menu (the three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.

  1. Tap Manage Filtering.
  2. Tap Allow Notifications to toggle on alerts for Time-Sensitive, Personal, Transactions, or Promotions.

Viewing and Managing Filtered Messages

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Tap the Filters button at the top-left (or top-right) of your screen.
  3. Choose the category you want to view, such as Unknown Senders, Transactions, Promotions, or Spam.
  4. To move a message to your main inbox, tap the conversation, then select Mark as Known.
