A new rumor claims the ‘iPad Fold’ isn’t dead after all

This is an "iPad Fold" concept.

The rumored “iPad Fold” is still in the works at Apple, but may remain an unreleased experiment, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in an April “Power On” newsletter. However, a new rumor says work is activity continuing on the foldable tablet.

An X post by Weibo-based leaker known as “Digital Chat Station” claims Apple is still developing a large foldable iPad despite technical hurdles. He/she said it will likely feature the same crease-free hinge design as Apple’s foldable iPhone (the “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra”) coming later this year or in early 2027. Gurman said that such a device, if it does arrive, will be a 20-sized, 20-inch tablet. He’s noted that the device has been a priority of future CEO John Ternus while in his hardware chief role. However, once he replaces Tim Cook, the project could be postponed or sidelined.

A foldable iPad has been rumored for some time. Previous Bloomberg reports have claimed that Apple is working with Samsung Display to on an 18-inch display panel that has little to no chance of creases developing in the middle of the screen. Here’s what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects to see as the hardware specs in an “iPhone Fold” should one ever arrive:

° Touch ID returns as a side button, as Face ID may be absent due to thickness and internal space constraints.

° The foldable iPhone will have a book-style design, featuring an approximately 7.8-inch crease-free inner display and an approximately 5.5-inch outer display.

° The rear camera features a dual-lens setup, with one front-facing camera available in both folded and unfolded states.

° It will measure 9–9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5–4.8mm when unfolded.

° The hinge will combine stainless steel and titanium alloy, while the casing opts for titanium alloy.

° It will use the same high-density battery cells as the ultra-thin iPhone 17.
