CarPlay is an Apple standard that enables a car radio or head unit to be a display and a controller for an iOS device. It’s available on all iPhone models beginning with the iPhone 5 (and, of course, later). You can change its wallpaper to your personal preference. Here’s how in iOS 26:
On the CarPlay Screen (Preferred):
- Open Settings on your CarPlay display.
- Tap on Wallpaper.
- Select from the displayed options to immediately update your background.
On your iPhone:
- Go to Settings > General.
- Select CarPlay and tap on your vehicle.
- Tap Wallpaper to change it
Key Tips & Customization
- Appearance Modes: You can set the wallpaper to automatically switch between light and dark, or force “Always Dark” for a more cohesive, low-light look.
- Custom Images: While Apple does not officially support uploading custom photos as backgrounds, some users employ workarounds, such as using the Widgetsmith app, to display custom images in widget spaces.
- Visual Enhancements: The iOS 26 update includes higher-quality, cleaner designs and optimized contrast for easier viewing.
- Color Filters: You can further tweak the appearance of your wallpaper by going to Settings > Accessibility > Color Filters within your car’s settings.
