In a recent post on Weibo, the leaker known as “Fixed Focus Digital” said more iterations of the iPhone Air are coming despite disappointing sales for the first generation (although it reportedly sold well in China).
“The Air 2 will proceed with its standard product iteration cycle; no matter how abysmal the sales turn out to be, Apple will grit its teeth and push through with at least two generations,” he/she said.
Another leaker known as “Instant Digital” has previously said that Apple has requested an “ultra-thin” Face ID component from suppliers that will allow a second generation of the thinnest-ever iPhone to accommodate an ultra wide-angle lens in addition to the existing single main lens. A redesign that includes a second camera is said to be one way that Apple thinks it can address user complaints that the iPhone Air, while an impressive design feat, has led to too many hardware compromises, especially given the US$999 price tag, notes MacRumors.
The second gen iPhone Air will launch in either late 2026 or 2027, depending on which rumors you believe.
