How to use the Continuous Audio Connection feature of tvOS 26.4

tvOS 26.4 includes a new setting for Continuous Audio Connection.

In addition to removing the iTunes Movies and TV Shows apps from Apple TV, tvOS 26.4 includes a new setting for Continuous Audio Connection.

It eliminates audio dropouts or “popping” noises when switching between different audio formats. It wraps all audio, including 2-channel stereo, in a Dolby MAT container to maintain a consistent connection with your sound system. And it specifically resolves issues where 5.1-channel content was too quiet or caused issues with Sonos home theater systems.

To use the Continuous Audio Connection feature:

° Go to Settings > Video and Audio > Audio Format > HDMI Output.

° Toggle Continuous Audio Connection to On.
