Sorry, Apple, but I’ll look elsewhere for a new external display for my Mac

32-inch Apple Studio Display concept

I was eagerly waiting for Apple to announce a 32-inch Studio Display with ProMotion. The tech giant did indeed announce two new displays, but neither offer what I need. The updated Studio Display is still “only” 27 inches and still only has 60Hz instead of ProMotion’s 120Hz.

The new Studio Display does get a better webcam, and an updated six-speaker sound system with deeper bass. However, these features aren’t enough to convince me to upgrade from my current Studio Display.

As for the Studio XDR, I’m not paying $3,299 for a 27-inch display. Sure, it has ProMotion and comes with a tilt-adjustable stand, and can be configured with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand or a VESA mount adapter for custom desk setups. But those features aren’t enough to make me fork out more than $3,000.

Besides, Apple isn’t offering any trade-in options for those of us who have a Studio Display.

I’m disappointed with Apple’s choices. The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks Apple should offer this display line-up: a 24-inch Studio Display, a 32-inch Studio Display with ProMotion; and a 32-inch Studio Display XDR.
